Obedience Level 1
''Everyone has to start somewhere''
| Focus | The focus of this course will be on teaching the basic commands; sit, down, stay, heel and come when called. Upon completion of this course the dog will be able to perform these skills on leash under low distraction. This course will also provide control in the house and the foundation for great future obedience control. |
| Course duration | 6 week course |
| Owner theory |
Theory for the owners will include social structure issues, building reward systems and common behaviour problems i.e. jumping, excessive barking, lack of focus. |
Obedience Level 2
''Teach me more''
| Focus | This course will expand on the obedience taught in the Basic Obedience course. Intermediate obedience training will increase your dog's ability to perform commands under distraction and hold the command for longer periods of time. |
| Course duration | 6 week course |
| Owner theory |
Theory for the owner looks at normal communication systems for both dogs and their owners. You will become more aware of what information you are relaying to your dog through your body language and the importance of conveying that language to achieve the results you are seeking. |
Obedience Level 3
''See how smart I could be...''
| Focus | This course will focus on proofing and securing your dog's obedience commands under higher levels of distraction as well as off leash. This level of obedience allows your dog more freedom because a well behaved dog is a pleasure to have and welcomed just about everywhere! We highly recommend this level of training for dogs that live in an urban setting and for owners who wish to have a well balanced, socialized companion who can travel anywhere. |
| Course duration | 6 week course |
| Owner theory |
Theory for the owner focuses on verbal control to allow your dog off leash independence. |
Outdoor Obedience Level 1 *NEW*
''Take it outside to the real world''
| Focus | This course will be held outdoors amongst all the real life distractions Mother Nature has to offer us. Your dog will learn how to refine their sit, down stays, heeling and recall despite the tempting smells, sights and passersby. Every class will start with a review of obedience techniques before we set out together to challenge the dogs and improve as owners. This is just the course for dogs still learning obedience commands or the veteran obedience dog that sometimes 'forgets' what it means to heel when the squirrel darts across his path. |
| Course duration | 4 week course |
| Owner theory |
Theory for the owner includes learning how to identify, manage and overcome distractions in the real world through a layered learning program. |
Recall Course *NEW*
''Learning to come when called!''
| Focus | The focus of this course is entirely on the recall command. A reliable recall is one of the most important tools you can have as a dog owner and it is also the most difficult obedience command to master. Through exercises, games and practice this course will teach you how to get your dog to come when called! |
| Course duration | 4 week course |
| Owner theory |
Theory for the owner focuses on understanding layered learning as well as perfecting the timing of praise and consequence. Owners will also learn when it is appropriate to use the recall command during day to day activities. |
Dog Tricks *NEW*
''Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?''
| Focus | This course teaches you the fundamentals of shaping so that you can teach an old dog new tricks. Learning new tricks is a great way to build on the foundation of your obedience and is both fun and stimulating for your dog. Best of all you can show off your dog's new talents to friends and family. |
| Course duration | 4 week course |
| Owner theory |
Theory for the owner focuses on targeting techniques, markers and shaping behaviours for each trick. |
